Life, Death, and Digital Dreams: Maya Yaroshenko at Milan’s Abstract in Motion

BY Ksenia Kazintseva POSTED 15/12/2025 1:58 PM

Milan has long been a city that negotiates the tension between old worlds and emerging artistic futures. This December, from 2 to 7 December, Art Gallery Finestreria hosts Abstract in Motion, a group exhibition uniting twelve artists investigating abstraction not as a style, but as a state of becoming. Among them, Maya Yaroshenko offers a […] Read More

Until the end of December, Maxim Boxer Gallery presents Bipolarisation, an exhibition by Semen Khanin and Artur Virtmanis. This project by a small conceptual gallery founded by curator Maxim Bokser carries particular significance for Riga, not only because of its artistic ambition, but because of the intellectual and perceptual risks it is willing to take. Before and After the Gallery: After Art, Will, Save, Us

BY Izba Arts POSTED 11/12/2025 11:30 AM

Now closed, Art, Will, Save, Us leaves behind the trace of an exhibition that asked not what viewers saw, but what they carried away with them. Presented at Toolip Gallery in Vienna, the collective show brought together forty-four local and international artists and unfolded less as a conventional exhibition than as a proposition. Art here […] Read More

Curatorial recommendation: 5 reads that helped shape the understanding of what curation is.

BY Margarita Makhanova POSTED 22/11/2025 2:01 PM

In one of the episodes of a ‘Curating Tools’ podcast hosted by Call for Curators and Node Centre for Curatorial Studies, one of the guests said that you don’t necessarily need an academic background to be a curator. Your own background determines your curatorial specialisation. Having received a formal education in creative events management, I […] Read More

Traces of Touch: The Living Archive by Parks Sadler

BY Ksenia Kazintseva POSTED 18/11/2025 9:52 AM

In the former Eastern Bloc region, artists and researchers working with archives often explore silence as well as what’s present — what was hidden, censored, or deemed unworthy of remembrance? For London-based interdisciplinary artist Parks Sadler, who spent a formative period in Wrocław, Poland, the act of remembering becomes a radical gesture. Their practice — […] Read More

Today we’re introducing you to another interesting artist from Eastern Europe, Kseniia Chumakova. Her practice is rooted in the exploration of silence, space, and emotional memory. Forget How to Breathe and Then Remember Again

BY Ksenia Kazintseva POSTED 20/08/2025 12:08 PM

“Mother Vera” directed by Cécile Embleton, Alys Tomlinson and produced by Laura Shacham is, without exaggeration, one of the most incredible films I have ever seen. Exploring the delicate balance between routine and freedom, organised religion and wider spirituality, femininity and restraint, it is an absolute masterpiece. As a dear friend, curator and photographer Zula Rabikowska […] Read More

United We Stand, Divided We Fall: Art as Collective Resistance

BY Izba Arts POSTED 19/06/2025 3:12 PM

Divide et impera —divide and conquer — has historically served as a strategy of control and domination. However, in today’s context, where social fragmentation seems engineered, creative responses to it create a new strength through its antithesis: “United we stand, divided we fall.” This premise is the guiding thread of the new group exhibition at […] Read More

Between Gesture and Silence – Sasha Ryabchik

BY Ksenia Kazintseva POSTED 18/06/2025 3:15 PM

In Words: The Unspoken, Sasha Ryabchik moves not toward grand statements but toward fracture — toward the places where language stumbles and dissolves under the pressure of emotional complexity. Her canvases are populated by phrases half-written, repeated, crossed out, or left hovering mid-sentence. Text appears not as communication but as artifact — an afterimage of […] Read More

Transforming a gallery into a ‘home’: curatorial notes on the Open House art show.

BY Margarita Makhanova POSTED 17/06/2025 2:16 PM

Home is rarely a neutral word. For those who have moved countries, it carries distant childhood memories and the reinvention of what home means in a different culture. Around a third of the 31 artists in Open House moved to the UK from elsewhere, including myself, the curator of the show, and that fact, though […] Read More

What Latvia’s Oscar-winning animation ‘Flow’ tells us about the world today

How a wordless animated film from Latvia has become a symbol of global unity in a divided time. Today, the animation market is dominated by American, Chinese, and Japanese studios.
